Konorchek Canyons

Konorchek Canyons - located 136 kilometers from the city of Bishkek along the Bishkek-Issyk-Kul highway in the western part of the Boom Gorge. Konorchek canyons can be reached through a narrow, rocky canyon that begins in the vicinity of the Red Bridge. The path to the canyon is very interesting and runs along the bed of a long-dried river. At times, the rocks are so close together that there remains a passage literally one and a half meters wide. A very unusual phenomenon for the Tien Shan. Konorchek Canyons consist of red Paleogene sandstone and clay. In the spring there is a lot of greenery, a lot of shrub plants - ephedra, barberry, rose hips. Other flowering plants are represented by semi-desert species that grow in arid areas. Numerous large and small gorges diverge from the main glade of Konorchek, on which you can take walks. Thousands of years of soil erosion have made this place what it is now: magnificent clay sculptures, and an impressive scale. Here to this day you can find the remains of shells from ancient times, when the sea stretched on this place. Despite the fact that the canyon is located in the middle of the mountains, the temperature here is on average higher than in the Chui valley. In winter, there is virtually no snow, and in summer the temperature hardly drops below 40 degrees. Therefore, it is better for tourists to visit this place in the off-season: in spring or autumn.
